TAI SUI — 丁未 FIRE GOAT

Tai Sui 2027: who the Ding Wei year marks

In folk practice each lunar year has a presiding general — Tai Sui — and people whose birth sign stands in particular relation to that year's branch are traditionally marked out for a rockier twelve months. Which signs those are is not a matter of opinion: it falls out mechanically from standard relation tables. Below is the full computation for 2027, the 丁未 Fire Goat year, which begins at the instant of Li Chun 4 February 2027, 09:46 China Standard Time.

The general of the year

Several popular sites currently name Wen Zhe (文哲) as the 2027 Tai Sui. Wen Zhe governs 2026, the 丙午 year. The temple record of the sixty generals lists Miao Bing (繆丙) for Ding Wei 2027 — see the published record maintained by JM Temple. It is a small thing, but it is exactly the kind of thing worth checking before trusting anyone's forecast — including this one.

The marked signs, computed

Folk summaries often say “about four” signs are affected in a given year. Enumerated from the standard pair-relation tables — the same tables behind every chart this site casts — five signs carry a named relation to the Goat:

SignBranchRelation to the GoatBirth years*
GoatShares the year’s own branch — born in a previous Goat year.1931 · 1943 · 1955 · 1967 · 1979 · 1991 · 2003 · 2015 · 2027
OxDirect opposition to the Goat — the head of every temple’s list for a Ding Wei year.1937 · 1949 · 1961 · 1973 · 1985 · 1997 · 2009 · 2021
HorseCombines with the Goat — classically binding what it touches: engaged rather than opposed.1930 · 1942 · 1954 · 1966 · 1978 · 1990 · 2002 · 2014 · 2026
RatA quieter marking — noted in folk calendars, short of open clash.1936 · 1948 · 1960 · 1972 · 1984 · 1996 · 2008 · 2020
DogSits with the Goat inside the 丑-戌-未 three-punishment — traditionally noted, short of clash.1934 · 1946 · 1958 · 1970 · 1982 · 1994 · 2006 · 2018

*Years that begin at each year's Li Chun — see the boundary note below. The other seven signs form no named relation with 未 under these tables. Where a sign qualifies under more than one relation — the Ox both clashes with the Goat directly and sits with it inside the three-punishment — it is listed once.

One boundary worth checking

The zodiac year changes at Li Chun, the solar term — not at Lunar New Year. If you were born in January or early February, your birth-year branch may belong to the previous year, and every list above could be one sign off for you specifically. Cast your chart and the boundary is resolved by the astronomical instant, not by a lookup table.

What we certify — and what we don't

What this page can certify is mechanical: which branches stand in which named relation to the year, printed under the same audit trail as every other claim on this site (see the verification corpus). Whether a marked year calls for temple observance is a matter of practice and belief, and we take no position on it. And a single birth sign is one character out of eight — a full reading comes from the whole chart, which is how our 2027 forecast is built.
