About Day Pillar
Day Pillar is a small, independent project. The calculator is free and takes no account. The conventions it applies are published in full, and the cases it is tested against are published too — including the ones where a naive implementation would get the year wrong.
The reports are generated, not hand-written: every sentence is produced from your own pillars by the same engine the calculator runs, with the classical source for each reading named in the document. That is what makes them auditable — and why a wrong chart is treated as a defect to fix, not a matter of opinion.
The interpretive readings — what the tradition makes of each ten god, element and register the engine finds — are reviewed by, and the project is advised by, Mr. Li, a practising consultant in BaZi and feng shui. Trained from childhood in a family of practitioners, he has more than two decades of client practice behind him, tens of thousands of charts read, clients across Asia and internationally, consulting work for international consumer brands, and thousands of students taught. The calculations are ours and are published in full; the readings are the tradition's, checked by someone who has spent a career applying it.
If a chart here is wrong
Email daypillar@gmail.com and it gets looked at the same day. If the cause is a convention difference, the methodology page will say so and we will point you at the relevant section. If it is our error, sales stop until it is fixed, the fix goes into the verification corpus as a permanent test case, and it is recorded below.
Data and sources
The birthplace search list is built from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0), cross-checked against the tz-lookup timezone database (CC0); cities whose recorded offsets disagree between the two are excluded. Country names are shown via the browser's built-in Intl.DisplayNames.
